TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Defense attorneys for the man accused of starting a fire that killed two Toledo firefighters say investigators might have destroyed a report that shows he is innocent.
A motion was filed in court Friday for a hearing regarding the destruction of potential evidence that could prove Ray Abou-Arab's innocence.
Investigators say the fire that killed Privates
started in the garage of an apartment complex at Magnolia and Huron, but Abou-Arab's attorneys say one fire investigator's report suggests the fire may have originated in the kitchen area of one of the apartments.
The defense is asking a judge to schedule a hearing about getting that full report. There is no word on if that hearing will be scheduled.
Abou-Arab faces several charges in this case, including aggravated murder. He's expected in court later this month.
