PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Perrysburg's Buttonwood Park was severely damaged by flooding caused by ice jams on the Maumee River earlier this spring.

The roadway into the park was almost completely destroyed, trees were uprooted, and large chucks of pavement wound up spread across the park's soccer fields. The park's sign was even damaged.

“One of the big things we need to do is clean up the stone that washed into there, so that we can start mowing it when the grass starts growing. Otherwise, if the grass gets ahead of us, we can't see what's going on, it gets tough to keep up with it for repairs,” said Wood County Parks Director Neil Munger.

Volunteers who wish to help with the clean-up should come to Buttonwood between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. Buttonwood Park is located at 27174 Hull Prairie Road in Perrysburg.
