TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - On Dec. 16, 2009, 15-year-old Cody Brown was killed as he walked to school. Brown was hit by an Amtrack train as he crossed the railroad tracks on McCord Road near Springfield High School.
More than 5 years later, the Ohio Department of Transpiration is moving concrete, steel and earth to send the roadway under the tracks.
Northbound lanes of McCord Road closed between Mall Drive/Hall Street and Spectrum Boulevard because of the project on Wednesday. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in the area. The traffic changes on McCord Road will remain in effect until September of 2016.
ODOT says a roundabout will be constructed south of the closure to help with the flow of traffic into Springfield High School. The state also plans to temporarily extend Holland Park Drive south over the railroad tracks to help traffic flow. Those two changes are expected in August.
