(Toledo News Now) - If you have a home alarm sign in your front yard, the Better Business Bureau wants to remind you to watch out for dishonest alarm company hucksters.
The BBB says every year, door-to-door home security salesmen knock on doors and try to sell their alarm systems. Sometimes they may lie to people and trick them into buying their product.
What you can watch out for:
- The salesmen claim to be from the alarm company you already have and tell you it's time to upgrade your system.
- They may lie that they work for your alarm company when they actually sell for a different company.
- They may also tell you that your old company is out of business so your system needs to be replaced.
- They may trick you into signing lengthy service contracts with expensive cancellation policies.
The BBB says legitimate alarm companies don't go door-to-door, they work based on appointments.
