MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) - Although chillier weather has not helped to melt huge blocks of ice at Side Cut Metropark, progress is being made in the clean up.
The park reopened Tuesday at the Wayne Street entrance, allowing nature lovers to come back. But, the main entrance on River Road is still closed, as a lot of cleaning up is left to do.
Metroparks spokesman Scott Carpenter says they want to be sure no one gets hurt.
“If you scramble over it to get to the river, you can be endangering not only yourself but also those who might have to come rescue you if you can't get back over,” said Carpenter.
Metropark leaders say they are also looking at places along the river where ice might be able to be removed to make space for walleye fishermen. If that's successful the plan is to have the park open by this weekend.
