BG car dealership out thousands of dollars after thieves steal 28 tires and rims

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) - A car dealership in Bowling Green is out thousands of dollars after thieves stole the tires and rims off of several cars.

Sunday morning staff at the Al Smith Chrysler Dodge Jeep and Ram on North Main Street found seven of their cars up on blocks with the tires and rims gone.

"There was one up front, and then the three back here, and then we discovered three more trucks in the back of our lot, that make the total that were hit, a total of seven," said General Manager Brian Wisniewski.

The thieves stole 28 tires and rims right out of the lot sometime either late Saturday night or very early Sunday morning. The estimated cost is somewhere around $25,000.

"We're not aware of anything else that happened. We didn't really see much more in the way of collateral damage, really it's four sets of rims and tires - they're all 20 inch rims, so they're just a higher dollar, higher targeted rim," said Wisniewski.

In the next couple of months the dealership will be moving to a bigger location far from where it is currently located. Wisniewski says this will give them more space and the lot will be better lit.

"They'll be spaced out better. Someone on the lot will be more visible on our new lot down the street than they are in this lot here," said Wisniewski.

He say while the dealership will work through this, it isn't a victim-less crime.

"When it's all said and done, you'll be looking at these cars, and you'll never know a difference. But in the end we're still the losers here because there are thousands of dollars we will not be able to make up and we're just going to have to go on," said Wisniewski.

If you know anything about who may be responsible for the theft call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-54-CRIME.
