Toledo block watch leaders make plans for Community Peace Day April 18

Toledo block watch groups are hosting a Community Peace Day on Saturday, April 18 in an effort to prevent trouble when a Neo-Nazi group will be in town.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo block watch groups are hosting a Community Peace Day on Saturday, April 18 in an effort to prevent trouble when a Neo-Nazi group will be in town.

The Neo-Nazis will be rallying outside Government Center on April 18. The last time they were in Toledo, 10 years ago, riots broke out.

Block watch leaders what to prevent a repeat of that, so they laid out their plans for Community Peace Day at their monthly leadership meeting Thursday night.

“We're hoping to keep everybody away from the Government Center,” said block watch chairperson Heather Buford. “We're hoping it will strengthen Toledo and the neighborhoods in Toledo.”

Toledoans will be urged to do yard work, hold picnics, and anything else to spread a message of peace.

Buford says the Neo-Nazis are entitled to freedom of speech, but she and many other disagree with their message.
