Police: Hicksville woman shot son Monday afternoon

HICKSVILLE, OH (Toledo News Now) - A Hicksville man is fighting for his life after police say he was shot by his own mother.

Hicksville Police say 71-year-old Margaret Camp shot her 45-year-old son Gus Camp inside a house in the 400 block of East Cornelia Street in Hicksville around 5 p.m. Monday. Police say Gus Camp was hit in the stomach.

"Any shooting is bad but it's very unfortunate when a family is involved in the shooting," said Chief Monty Ballinger of the Hicksville Police Department.

"I'm not acquainted with those neighbors over there, it's just kind of a shock," said Charlie Gallagher, a University of Michigan student who was visiting a friend across the street where the shooting happened.

Gus Camp remains in critical condition in a Fort Wayne hospital. Margaret Camp has been charged with felonious assault and is locked up in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.

Police have not released any information on a motive.
