St. Francis celebrates hockey state title

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - St. Francis deSales High School students and staff celebrated the hockey team's state championship on Tuesday.

The Knights beat Cleveland St. Edward 3-1 to win the 2015 Ohio Hockey Championship last Saturday.

"It's always great to win a state championship. I mean, most schools don't ever win a state championship and this is our twenty seventh one, which is really great. It's a great boost for the school, a lot of excitement, enthusiasm in the school," said St. Francis President Father Ronald Olszewski.

The team's coach says his players a just as focused in the class room as they are on the ice.

"Nineteen out of the 23 kids are all honors, 3.0 or better. That's saying something. They're here for the education and it's lucky for us coaches they happen to be great hockey players that want to play for a high school. So it's kind of a win-win for the school," said Coach Chris Varga.
