TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - A man who was locked up in the Lucas County Jail with a man accused of murder testified in court on Thursday that the defendant told him he committed the crime. Toledo News Now was the only TV station with cameras in the courtroom.
John Haugh stands accused of killing Thomas Przybysz last summer. Police say Haugh stabbed Przybysz to death outside Przybysz's Point Place home around 3:30 a.m. on May 23, 2014.
On Thursday, two men who spent time with Haugh inside the Lucas County Jail after he was arrested for the murder took the stand. The first man told the court Haugh had a shank, or makeshift knife, with him inside the jail. The man said Haugh threatened to kill others with the weapon.
The other man told the jury that Haugh told him he killed Przybysz. According to the inmate, Haugh said he went to Przybysz's house to beat him up that night, but then started losing the fight. That's when the man claims Haugh said he pulled out a knife and stabbed Przybysz.
