Hundreds endure harsh cold for Fat Tuesday Paczkis

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Regardless of the conditions, hundreds of people are lining up to get their hands on Paczkis before Lent starts.

More than 20 volunteers are working Tuesday morning in the Polish District to meet the demands of the people.

Organizers say people started lining up at 4:30 a.m., with some people traveling from as far away as Dayton and Columbus.

With bitter cold weather and wind chills of -5 to -15 expected through sunrise, the One Village Council is meeting the needs of customers.

Paczki fanatics can wait inside of the Old Library Building on LaGrange and not suffer in the elements.

The sale has been going on since Sunday, but Tuesday is expected to be the busiest, with an estimated more than 18,000 paczkis to fly off the racks.

The giant Polish pastries are pre-bagged straight from Bakery Unlimited.

As for hours this Fat Tuesday morning, the Paczkis are supposed to be for sale until 2 p.m. However, organizers say they will more than likely sell out by noon.
