(Toledo News Now) - The Toledo Lucas County Public Library System is forced to deal with abhorrent and criminal behavior. With public facilities accepting about three million library visitors in a year, security is an issue.

Even though criminal and unacceptable behavior is subjected to consequences, the time has come to deal more swiftly and harshly with drug and alcohol issues, theft and sexual misconduct. The penalty for any of these behaviors must be “ONE AND DONE!”

If you are caught, you are banned. Period!

If you are in the library and you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, if you engage in any sort of sexual misconduct or abusive behavior, it's ONE AND DONE!

If you are caught stealing, it's ONE AND DONE!

Take the offenders and impose a ban for a year or possibly forever. If the penalties are stiff, immediate and final, those transgressors will get the message…”not here, not now, not in our library”…the library system belongs to all of us.

If the library administrators want to send us a message that our safety is paramount, then institute a ONE AND DONE policy for the most egregious offenders. I don't think too many moms or dads will have a problem with that!
