BBB: Email scam claims you won random internet lottery

A common internet scam the Better Business Bureau has been hearing from consumers about involves an internet lottery that doesn't exist.

(Toledo News Now) - A common internet scam the Better Business Bureau has been hearing from consumers about involves an internet lottery that doesn't exist.

People have been receiving emails saying they've been selected as the winner of an internet lottery and they'll receive $50,000, but it's a scam.

The emails often appear to be sent from Google or Microsoft, and ask for personal information needed to claim the winnings. This could be an attempt to steal your identity.

Signs that may indicate this is a scam include asking you to send money to pay taxes or fees. The email may also be written in poor-quality English or request you send money to a foreign country.

Even if the emails look authentic, they are all scams.

There are no random internet lotteries.
