Skaters enjoying temporary ice rink at Fifth Third Field

Through New Year's Eve, you can come down to the field and onto the rink for an open skate.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - There's more than just hockey being played this week at Fifth Third Field during the Toledo Walleye's Winterfest.

Through New Year's Eve, you can come down to the field and onto the rink for an open skate.

It's a cool setting.

You're on the field skating around second base where there are Mud Hens players in the summertime.

"It's interesting. It's different. You get different scenery," said Cassie Arnold.

Cassie's husband Steve also was also taken in by the unusual setting.

"I figured there would be more people cheering me on but other than that, it's been fun," said Steve.

The rink can accommodate 200 skaters.

Cost is $7.00 per hour long session.

You can bring your own skates but rentals are available for $3.00.

"This is great. It's bringing everybody into Toledo. I love it," said Mark Forgach.

Ann Lampkowski snapped a picture on the ice of her family.

A trip to the ballpark for a skating session was her Christmas present to them.

"Because they love doing outdoor stuff and athletic sports, and they're all good friends," said Ann.

Tickets for the open skate are going fast.

You can buy them in person at Fifth Third Field but it's recommended you purchase them on line at the
