Family receives community support after home set on fire

Nicole Crosby and her family rent a home on Elsie Avenue in West Toledo. On November 29th, it was set on fire.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Nicole Crosby and her family rent a home on Elsie Avenue in West Toledo. On November 29th, it was set on fire. She's still searching for answers, but today, she got a generous gift.

"It really means a lot to me that somebody decided to help us out, which we never asked for," said Nicole.

She's been trying to pick up the pieces ever since. We shared her story last week, when she asked the community for help - any information that could possibly lead her to some answers about who would do this. For a local woman named Chris, she may not have the answers Nicole is looking for, but she did have something for her.

"We're a community here in Toledo, and it takes everybody caring about each other," Chris said.

Chris called several of her friends together, and was able to collect furniture that Nicole can use once her home is repaired.

"It means the world to me that somebody wanted to insist that I take the help, so I'm taking it, because it's from her heart, and from their heart, so it means a lot," said Nicole.

For Chris and her friend Linda, Nicole's story hits close to home.

"When I was young, we lost our house to a fire, and I know what it's like to lose your house to a fire, and when your kids and you're separated, it's very emotional," Linda said.

"They always say it takes a village to raise a child, I think it takes a community to care about their own, and I think that's the most important thing today, is that everybody cares about each other and has a great Christmas," said Chris.

Nicole is asking again... If you think you know anything about who may have done this, contact police.
