DETROIT, MI (Toledo News Now) - Detroit Tigers Manager Brad Ausmus addressed media on Tuesday regarding playoffs.
He said for starting rotation, he's going with Max Scherzer in game one, Justin Verlander in game two and David Price in game three. That's the last three reigning Cy Young Award winners - quite a rotation - and Ausmus was quick to point out that that rotation is the backbone of this team.
"[It's been] a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, but it seemed like it came together for me at the end of the season, the last couple of starts, [that's the] best of I've felt all year, so hopefully [we'll] just ride that momentum and get better heading into the postseason," said Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander.
"You can look at the numbers against a team, but let's be honest, the teams, the turnovers on teams and rosters are so significant nowadays," said Ausmus. "A pitcher's record against one team over the past six years has very little bearing on the team he is facing today, so I looked at it and ultimately felt this is the best way to go."
"People always ask me if I'm concerned. I've never been concerned about David. He is a horse and just like the rest of our guys that have the experience, the stuff and the know-how to get the job done," said Tigers catcher Alex Avila. "And when they are on the mound, I expect quality starts and a chance to win."
The first two games of the ALDS are in Baltimore. Game three will be in Detroit.
