Yellow Jackets quarterback Wayne Overman doesn't play like a sophomore. He's a gifted athlete who can run and pass the football, leading St. Martin to back-to-back victories to open the 2014 season.
The Mississippi Power Player of the Week, guided the Yellow Jackets past East Central 56 to 27 last Thursday.
Overman rushed 12 times and exploded for 108 yards and two touchdowns.
In the passing game, he completed 7 of 15 attempts for 191 yards and three touchdowns.
Overman said,"The line blocked well. Everybody executed their jobs and everything worked out. I'm not going to take any credit for my performance. I performed because other people did their jobs."
After two games, Overman has connected on 24 of 37 passes for 436 yards and four touchdowns with a quarterback rating of 130.
He has ripped off 217 yards rushing with 3 TDs netting 8 yards per carry.
"He's a gamer," stated head coach Eddie Wayne Whitehead. He added,"He's got a big body and is able to run and he can break tackles. Once he gets into the flow of the game it kind of ups his play with the flow of the game."@
The Yellow Jackets are loaded with game breaking receivers. Jacorey Williams totaled 123 all-purpose yards with one passing TD, a rushing touchdown and another TD receiving.
Neicill McNair has become the Yellow Jackets leading receiver, having hauled in 13 catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
St. Martin entertains Vancleave Friday night at 7 in Ocean Springs.
