Joe Thomas spoke with media on Monday

On if it feels like Week 1:

"It doesn't feel like it yet, but I'm sure when we come back on Wednesday, it'll feel real when you really start putting in the real game plan and start dialing things down and really getting tuned into only the Pittsburgh Steelers for the first time in the whole season, really."

On if all head coaches approach Week 1 the same as far as when to start looking at the opponent and putting in the game plan:

"Everybody's unique.  A lot of coaches want to have a couple extra days practicing against your opponent in these couple of extra days that we have. They'll throw the game plan in on Sunday or Monday, and you'll get an extra day or two. Some coaches just kind of want to take it as a camp day where you're practicing No. 1's versus No. 1's or you're working on special situations or whatever. It's kind of by taste. Each head coach has his own idea of what he wants to see."

On if has a feel for how Head Coach Mike Pettine will be on gameday and if he has seen a demonstrative side of Pettine yet:

"No, I expect to see kind of a really good, level-headed coach on the sideline who's into the game and he knows exactly when the timeouts should be taken and when to go for it. He's doing a great job managing the game, and I think that's who you want as a head coach."

On if he had any doubts about Pettine coming into the season:
"I didn't know him, just like most of the guys in this locker room. I obviously played against his defense a few times with the Jets and with the Buffalo Bills, but as soon as I got to meet him, I knew he was the real deal. I think he's done a great job getting us ready for where we are right now at this point in the season, and I'm excited to see how the season goes."

On what about Pettine came across as the real deal when he first met him:

"I think he's got an excellent plan. That's the first thing that comes across is he knows how he wants to get things done. He's going to do a great job communicating his message, and he's done a great job putting the assistants in place that he wants. I think everybody's on the same page, which is the No. 1 most important thing that you're going to have on an NFL team."

On where he feels the offense is with the zone-blocking scheme:

"I think we're doing a good job. Obviously, it's going to be important for us to improve every single week during the season, and I think that's no different than any other team. I think we're starting to get pretty comfortable with what we're doing. We're starting to get on the same page with running backs and tight ends. When you're running wide zone, you have to have the tight ends, the line and the running backs exactly on the same page on every play, otherwise it doesn't work. I think we're doing the right things right now, and I'm excited to see what happens when we go out there against Pittsburgh."
