Doucet points to 3 keys to watch in LSU vs. Wisconsin

Leonard Fournette Leonard Fournette
HOUSTON, TX (WAFB) -

Many are calling LSU vs. Wisconsin THE game to watch this weekend and here are the three main things fans should focus on for this matchup.

Running the Ball, Stopping the Run:

It is a fundamental part of the game. In this game, it comes to the forefront as both teams will test the front seven of their opponent. LSU head coach Les Miles is not afraid to line up with a “ground-and-pound” style of offensive attack. Wisconsin will look to test the unproven Tigers' defensive front. An effective running game and stopping the run will be a key to victory in Houston. Speaking of running the football, this has to be the most highly-anticipated freshman debut in recent history as Leonard Fournette suits up for the Tigers. Maybe the debut of running back Kevin Faulk is the closest in recent memory. The build-up around Fournette has been unprecedented and considering guys like Glenn Dorsey and Patrick Peterson moved through the LSU program, everyone will be watching No. 7.

We could see four quarterbacks play tonight. Wisconsin might play two guys and the Tigers have said both Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris will play. It isn't important who starts for LSU. What's important is which one makes plays and limits turnovers. Jennings will take the first snaps and Harris will get some time, too. It will be interesting to see how Harris handles the nerves that come with playing in his first game as a Tiger. If LSU throws for more than 200 yards, I would be surprised. I expect the Tiger quarterbacks to combine to throw 15 to 20 times in the game.

Houston is almost a home game for the Tigers. LSU sold its allotment of 35,000 and many more could show up. I expect the passionate fans decked out in purple and gold to make it feel as close to a home game as they can. How the Wisconsin Badgers handle the noise and enthusiasm will be interesting to see. The LSU faithful travel well and I expect NRG Stadium to be rocking come kickoff.
