Birchak ready for first shot at UFC

SACRAMENTO, CA -

Anthony Birchak's opportunity is now.

The 2004 Sahuarita High School grad will make his Ultimate Fighting Championship debut Saturday when he fights Joe Soto in a bantamweight bout on the fight card at UFC 177 in Sacramento, California.

Birchak, was a decorated Greco-Roman wrestler for the Mustangs and then at Grand Canyon University. He owns an 11-1 MMA record that includes a 2013 win over UFC vet Ryan Benoit and sports a championship belt from the Canadian-based Maximum Fighting Championship.

A college roommate of current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Soto is 15-2 in a career that began in 2006, and he brings a six-fight winning streak.

UFC 177 is headlined by the UFC bantamweight championship rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and the man he beat for the crown, Renan Barao.
