2-A-Days: Elysian Fields

ELYSIAN FIELDS, TX (KSLA) -

The Elysian Fields football team is trying to forget about losing its last three games of the 2013 season.

The Yellow Jackets have moved up to 3A from 2A and is looking to improve on last year's three win season.

Players say there is reason for optimism though, 2nd year head coach Scott Ford returns 9 starters on offense which now has had a full year under Ford's system.

Ford is now leading a program that has 3 state championships appearances and a state semifinal appearance in 2012.

Ford said, "What helped us was having our first off season under our belt and doing that and certainly know I have a better idea of what to expect and I know the kids a lot better and I think we aredefinitelyy fortunate being at the top of enrollment rather than being at the bottom, being a small school."

Meanwhile, defensively, the Jackets have a new defensivecoordinatorr and quarterback Logan Hughes, says last year's disappointing finish has done nothing but help them.

Hughes said, "Yea I feel like it did, learn how to win, lose some and mainly just the game slowing down a lot more than it was last year."

The Yellow Jackets open the season at home against Mineola on Friday.

Kendyl White would appear to have everything figured out as an athlete.  "I play volleyball, cheer, softball and soccer." Needless to say, it's a busy schedule. What makes her special, however, is not how she balances her talents. Instead, it's how she battles her health.  She has found success in every sport with dealing with juvenile type 1 diabetes since she was 18-months-old.
