Westover's Jones: Offense needs time

After its offense struggled to score any points in its season opener against Lee County, Westover will get a two week break. They won't play again until September 5th at Jonesboro.

The break should give the offense time to get better under new quarterback Emory McKenzie. Head Coach Octavia Jones says the team needs time on that side of the ball.

"Offense is always behind your defense but we are okay," Jones said. "Its going to take time for them to gel and we will be ready for it."

The break will also give the team time to get over the nationally-televised loss. Some say the game was the biggest regular season game for both programs. Jones said he will put the outcome in proper perspective for his team.

"Of course they are hurt because we want to win every ball game," Jones said. "It's a long season, we got 9 more games and we still have an opportunity to play for a state championship."

Westover opens the the season with 3 straight road games before finally hosting a Cairo at Hugh Mills Stadium on September 19th.
