Rebels look to build on historic 2013 season

2013 was a season to remember for Douglas Freeman football. The Rebels won ten games for the first time this century, made the postseason for the first time in six years, and won a playoff game for the first time in 33 years, a 48-47 triple OT victory over Manchester.

Now the Rebels are hoping to build off that success. 12 starters return from last year's squad that finished 10-2, and the team has set a goal to go further than it did a year ago.

Head coach Mike Henderson says the teams of the past two years have done a great job at setting the tone in terms of work ethic and what it takes to be successful. Now the Rebels feel this year's squad has the tools to make a run.

Senior Tanner Toy takes the reins of the offense at quarterback. He says he and his teammates are hungry to get out on the field and continue the success. Toy adds that nobody will be satisfied with a worse record or showing.

Douglas Freeman kicks off its 2014 schedule this Thursday at Midlothian. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm. NBC12 On the Sidelines begins this Friday, August 29.
