AFR: Five things to key on for Saints vs.Colts

Sean Fazende has five things to key on for the Saints vs. Colts matchup:

1.) Byrd is the word

When the Saints made Jairus Byrd the highest paid safety in NFL history, a certain expectation came with that. And for Byrd, it's a high one. Tonight, Byrd will showcase his skill set for the first time in a Saints uniform. If his practices this week are any indication, Byrd appears to be the real deal and EXACTLY what the Saints had hoped for when they brought him here.

2.) Brees is Back

We know what #9 can do but tonight will be the first time he'll do it this preseason. Also, since Brees normally doesn't play much if at all in the fourth preseason game, will Coach Payton give him even more reps tonight?

3.) Center of Attention

If this is truly an open competition and the third preseason game is the most important for starters then whomever starts the game at center, Tim Lelito or Jonathan Goodwin, should be the first clue as to who has the upper hand in this battle.

4.) Penalty Prevention

This one is too easy. You can bet Saints players have been drilled about the ridiculous amount of penalties committed last week. Coach Payton called it a sign of an undisciplined team. We'll see if they cleaned it up for tonight.

5.) Tackling Takeaways

The penalties overshadowed an incredible night for the Saints defense in accomplishing their off season goal of creating more turnovers. They forced five last week. Getting that many again may be unrealistic, but still they would certainly love to continue the trend of taking the ball away. Byrd should help with that.
