2-A-Days: North Desoto

In 2013 the North Desoto Griffins moved from district 1-3A to 1-4A. North Desoto had an impressive season in 1-4A finishing 5-2 in district play but eventually fell to East Jefferson in the playoffs, who would go on to win the 1-4A State Championship.

"That's four out of six years that we have lost to the state champ, maybe one year they will be losing to the state champ," said head coach Scott Abernathy.

When opposing teams go to Stonewall and face the Griffins, its usually a long night. The Griffins run oriented offense often wears teams down. This year it features tailback position features two cousins Dennis and Delmonte Hall.

"We are going to try to keep the ball away. We are going to play keep away and we are going to pound them and hopefully get that 3 to 4 thousand yard season like we always do," said Abernathy.

I like the pressure makes me work hard everyday in practice. We have a pretty good line we got a lot better on offense this year I think we will be good," said Dennis Hall.

The strong running game will help take pressure off a young sophomore quarterback Drake Foster who has improved his accuracy from the pocket during the summer.

On the defensive side of the ball the Griffins are young but Junior Linebacker Drennon Keen made some big plays in the the North Desoto vs Haughton scrimmage and believe that these freshman and sophomores are ready.

"We are not the biggest defense but we got the heart and the hustle for it. I think we are going to do good, they better be ready, said Keen.

Coach Abernathy believes that today's scrimmage will prepare his players for the tough games ahead.

"We have games like with Haughton High School that in prep work against a perennial 5A team and that's why we play that type of competition to get ready for other guys down the line," said Abernathy.

The Griffins take on Natchitoches Central for game 1 Sept. 7th in Natchitoches.
