Ohio State Highway Patrol hiring local dispatchers

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is hiring dispatchers for several of their posts including Bowling Green.

Some dispatchers are retiring and others are leaving for the state trooper academy, which is leaving some positions open.

Bowling Green Post Commander Lt. Jerrod Savidge says dispatch jobs are very important and play a key role in the Highway Patrol's operations.

"When the troopers are out on the road there's nothing more important than when you push that button for help to talk that somebody answers on the other line," said Savidge. "And not just that they answer, but that they know exactly what to do to get you help, and how to get you help, and get it there quick."

Savidge also says interested candidates should be able to juggle every aspect of the job, including taking multiple calls and entering the information into the system.

"It takes somebody that can multi-task," said Savidge. "Somebody that can type and somebody that's just interested in law enforcement in general."

Interested candidates must be at least 20 years old, have at least a high school GED and a valid drivers license.
