Sylvania development rezoning delayed

A meeting to move forward with rezoning some homes in Sylvania has been delayed after residents nearby voiced their opposition.

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) - A meeting to move forward with rezoning some homes in Sylvania has been delayed after residents nearby voiced their opposition.

The area to be rezoned is at the intersection of Alexis and Acres. The property would be changed from residential to a business zone. There is currently no word on what the area would be turned into, but neighbors say they are worried about how traffic patterns would change if the area were rezoned.

"If they are going to do anything, they need to think it out and plan for the traffic pattern, because it is impossible to get into our neighborhood, and it would just be better if they didn't do it," said John Ventresca, who lives near the possible development. "But if they are going to do it, they just can't throw something up. They would have to put a new signal in or something."

The meeting between the City of Sylvania and DJF Properties was canceled, but the lawyer representing the developers says this is a normal process of delay.

Sylvania's director of Public Services says the city is now planning to meet with the developers on Sept. 15.
