During the third quarter of Sunday's game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos, a much anticipated football game turned tragic when a man collapsed and later was pronounced dead at the local hospital, said the Santa Clara Fire Department.

The man suffered a cardiac emergency and received CPR before making his way to the hospital in San Jose.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, there was a "un-usually high number of calls for emergency services" made at Levi's stadium and quite possibly the heat was a large factor for those calls. The new stadium for the 49ers is located in Santa Clara where the temperature rose to 80 degrees, while at the location of the old stadium CandleStick Park was a mere 66 degrees.

The team said in a statement, "The 49ers organization is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of one of our fans earlier today. We would like to extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family and friends in this time of sadness."
