Perrysburg Schools to utilize more technology this year

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Parents and students are getting ready to go back to school, and Perrysburg Schools have a few new things on their agenda.

Perrysburg Superintendent Tom Hosler says more computers are one of the newest additions this year, and more grade levels will have the chance to use them.

"We have computers now from 5th grade all the way to 10th grade," said Hosler, "So we're very excited about that. I know it opens up a lot of opportunities for students and teachers to collaborate."

Hosler says they feel having more computers for students helps them stay up to date and competitive.

"One of the things that we recognize is that it's a great tool that really is needed to be competitive to the 21st century," said Hosler. "And we talk a great deal about getting students ready for the 21st century. You can't find a job today, or very few jobs today, that do not use or utilize technology."

District staff are also telling parents that the new state assessment test begins this year. These tests will be done online and are a bit more challenging than the previous test.

"The results are going to be very different," said Hosler. "So I think we'll be talking to the community about what's happened in other states. Where one year, 95% of the students are passing reading, and the next year, with the new test, it'll be 75%."

The school district also has a bond issue on the November ballot to build a new building. The District says it is needed to accommodate the increase in students they've seen.
