TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A Toledo man who got help from a police officer after his phone was stolen received a special honor on Friday.

Tyler Wiley made the news when his phone was stolen and Toledo Police Officer Otto Rectenwald stepped in to pay for a replacement. It was a small act of kindness that meant a lot to Wiley, who has Down syndrome. His mother says his phone is a lifeline for him.

On Friday, the pair was honored by throwing the first pitch at the Toledo Mud Hens game at Fifth Third Field.

"I'm so excited!" Wiley said before the game.

He says he's a huge Mud Hens fan. Officer Rectenwald was at Wiley's side for the pitch, but he says he was never looking for this attention.

"I did it for Tyler, he should be getting all the acclaim," Rectenwald said. "I just wanted to help the young man out. I never expected to get this recognition. It's been crazy."

Friday was Law Enforcement Night at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens recognized Officer Rectenwald for his good deed, but it was also another gift for Tyler: A chance to throw the first pitch for his favorite team.
