Findlay school year begins with new superintendent and security

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Monday marks the new school year for Findlay City Schools, and with it comes a new superintendent and new security upgrades.

New Superintendent Ed Kurt was previously superintendent at Margaretta Local Schools for 12 years. He says Findlay had been on his radar for awhile.

"Eight years ago I wrote down 10 districts that I thought were great districts and Findlay was one of those," said Kurt. "So I'm extremely excited to be here at Findlay City Schools."

This year a major change to the district is new security entrances. The new entrances are being installed at all the schools and now all students, staff and visitors will have to be buzzed into the building.

Currently the last security door is being installed at the main high school entrance and won't be completed for a few months. So in the meantime, all high school students will have to be dropped off at the freshman entrance.

Also, the district is in the early stages of working with the Cenergistic Energy Company to teach staff on how to conserve energy and research current school operations to find energy conservation solutions that save the district money.

"We're very excited to get the year kicked off," said Kurt. "We're here to serve students and the community, and we've had a great start so far and I have been totally impressed with the faculty and staff."

Classes begin for students of Findlay City Schools on Monday.
