2-A-Days: Booker T. Washington

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - There is pretty much no where to go but up for the Booker T. Washington Lions. That's because the Lions won just a single game last season under new head coach Kendrick Law and now he'll be looking for the school's first winning season since 2008.

The Lions lost almost their entire secondary to graduation.  They'll have to replace those seniors but Law says sophomore linebacker Nick Mitchell has stepped up as a key leader on defense. Coach knows last year's team was made up of a bunch of lion cubs but now they're ready to roar.

Law said, "A lot of these guys last year, you know it was their first time in the respective positions. Now they have a little more experience which should take them a little further as far as being able to be competitive and they are excited about being here."

Wide receiver DeAndre Washington said, "We take it one step at a time. We don't try to rush nothing. We're not talking about state championship stuff. We're talking about taking it little by little, play by play."

On the offensive side of the ball, Antonio Ward and Joshua Horton may spilt time under center. Horton is going into his second season playing quarterback after never taking a snap as the quarterback going into last season but he says this year people should expect a whole new Josh.

"I feel more comfortable. I have better skills. I have a better look on wide receivers, better progressions. I came a long way. I struggled last year. I'm willing to make myself better as of this year," said Horton.

Horton and the Lions open the season at Fair Park on September 5th.
