Central Catholic Irish prepared for football without Kizer, 4 others

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Change is good, right? Hopefully, because Central Catholic High School has to replace five players on their football team this year.

Those former players include Deshone Kizer, who is now playing at Notre Dame. Kizer led the Irish to a state title in 2012.

As for talent this year? It's there – it's everywhere, including with Ramon Miles. At 6'5", 260 pounds, he's committed to University of Toledo.

Central Catholic is the pre-season favorite in the TRAC, so don't feel too sorry for them.

"dThey talk about all the people that left and who we don't have, but they don't see the people that are coming back that were behind the people that left last year, that could be just as good as them or even better," said Senior Offensive Lineman Miles.

The Irish have options for Quarterback, too, including Marcus Winters, Drew Grombacher and Simeone Washington.

"I'm up to the challenge," said Winters. "Since Deshone left, I think it's the perfect spot for me."

"They each bring something different to the table," said Coach Greg Dempsey. "The biggest thing I ask them to do is, ‘just be yourself. We're going to cater things to you. We're not worried about what we did the last three years with Deshone.'"

Defense this year will be a strength, as always, for the Irish. They open the season at home with Warren De La Salle.
