(Toledo News Now) - The water emergency in Toledo came as a great shock to many people, including the experts.

But it really happened.  For more than two days, half a million people couldn't use the water. Our community was completely vulnerable.

For their part, the people of Toledo responded magnificently.

They pulled together and together we pulled through it. Complete strangers from out of town brought water to us proving again the real strength of America.

What did we learn?

That Lake Erie is very sick. And that is a matter of grave concern because nothing is more important to our future here than Lake Erie - nothing.

Lake Erie is our lifeblood, and this might well have been our last warning.

We know what we have to do. We have to clean up Lake Erie.

We don't need any more studies.  It's time for action.

We must save Lake Erie. But that can only be done by stopping the phosphorus and nitrogen that flow into it from the vast western Lake Erie Basin watershed, the largest in the Great Lakes. That watershed uses Lake Erie as its drain. It is that negligence that must stop.

I'm ready to do my part. I'm not going anywhere. I'm all in.

If we're going to save our lake, we need everybody working together, just like last week.

Because the water is back on, but for Lake Erie and its tri-state watershed it's still an environmental emergency.
