TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - An offensive lineman for Arizona State just publicly announced he is gay. Chip Sarafin came out to Compete magazine.

The 6'6", 320-pound senior lineman is from Gilbert. In the article, he said he told his Sun Devils teammates last spring and, "it was really personal to me. It benefited my peace of mind greatly."

It is thought Sarafin will be the first person to play big-time college football after announcing he was gay. The University of Missouri's Michael Sam came out earlier this year before the NFL Draft, but he'd already finished his eligibility. Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams.

Sarafin is a reserve for the Sun Devils. He also said after he finishes his football career he hopes to become a neurologist.
