Toledo charter school closes, auctions off belongings

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

After six years of operation, the Knight Academy of Toledo has closed their doors. On Tuesday, the school held an auction to sell their belongings.

Some of the items that were sold include old paints, textbooks, desks and more.

Frank Stoy from the Ohio Council of Community Schools said the charter school closed for a variety of reasons.

"The money that is yielded from the auction first is used to pay off any outstanding salaries or benefits for teachers that will go first," Stoy said. "Secondly, any outstanding debts that the school has, for example services that were provided, and any remaining funds will be returned to the public school system."

The Ohio Department of Education says they will be looking at where students were dispersed to decide what school the extra funds will go to.
