More >>City officials say only six of Toledo's 146 parks have been adopted since the Adopt a Park Program began this summer.
The city has put signs in the parks already adopted hoping that more residents will step up to the plate.
Willys parkway block watch leader Tina Scott says adopting a park is all about taking pride in where you live.
"Keeping your neighborhood clean is a must," said Scott. "Be a part of the solution, not the problem. If there's litter somewhere pick it up!"
Tina along with other residents and company Fry Heating have adopted Willys Park Boulevard, including the park itself and the flower bed at the corner of Hillcrest and Jackman.
"You need to keep it clean for the kids, you know? Set an example for the children," said Scott.
According to the city's parks Recreation and Forestry Commissioner Denny Garvin the idea of the program is for residents to be the eyes and ears for the city to help during budget cuts.
Scott says a little bit of time goes a long way and though all 146 parks may not all be adopted she hopes people will consider taking part.
"There are people out there that are cleaning stuff up, that are taking care of it," said Scott. "Step up to the plate! Let's work together as a team!"
Commissioner Garvin says the program has been successful and hopes it will grow even more into the next summer. As far as the remaining 140 parks Garvin says they are still on a two week rotation.
