2-A-Days: Southwood

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Southwood High school football team hasn't had a winning football season since 2004-2005. The Cowboys play in a tough 5A district and Head Coach Anthony McClain will be relying on the senior leadership from his skill players to help turn this program around. The Southwood Cowboy football team saw flashes of greatness last season and hope that it will carry over into this season.

The past two seasons the defense has been one of Southwood's main strengths. This season the Cowboys plan to put more points on the board offensively, behind leaders like Travion Morris, Keytron Crowder, and Terry Williams. The Cowboys play in a tough 5A District. Head Coach Anthony McClain understands what he is up against and will be relying on the senior leadership from his skill players to help turn this program around.

"Last year we were pretty competitive, we didn't win a district game but I think we are going to bounce back. I think we have closed the gap and we are a lot more competitive on the field and we are going to try to build off that," said McClain.

Receiver Desmond Smith and the cowboys have built chemistry over the past three season are are looking for the pay off.

"We been losing the last couple of years like I said we have the talent and I feel like this year is the year," said Smith.

The 5A District had two teams make it to the State Championship games last year. Parkway and Byrd could be intimidating to some but not the Cowboys. Southwood is ready to face the challenge.
