TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Police are searching for a man connected to a suspicious incident on the University of Arizona campus.

A female campus staff member was confronted on the campus mall around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 by a man who tried to place his hooded sweatshirt over her head before fleeing the scene in the 1300 block of E. University Blvd., according to UAPD Sgt. Joe Barrios.

Authorities described the suspect as Caucasian, in his early 20s, stands 5’10” to 5’11” tall and has a thin build. He was last seen wearing an open grey sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Sgt. Barrios said no weapons were used and the woman was not hurt. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

UAPD reminds the public to utilize the following safety practices:

1. Utilize ASUA Safe Ride for a free way to travel between UA buildings and lots at night. Call 520-621-SAFE.

2. PTS Night Cat travels a full circuit around the University of Arizona campus every 30 minutes. The service is free and operates Mon-Fri from 6:00 p.m. - 12:30 a.m.

3. Request cab service through the cab company’s dispatch center. Avoid calling individual cab drivers. Take note of the cab company you are using. Do not accept transportation from someone you do not know.

4. If you feel threatened or suspect you are being followed, walk toward a well-lighted area where there are people. Call 9-1-1 immediately!

5. Emergency blue light phones give you direct access to UAPD with the push of a button. Know where they are located at all times.

6. Never second guess yourself if you think you should call police about a suspicious person or incident. If someone or something gives you an uneasy feeling don’t hesitate to report it to police.

7. Remain alert and aware of your surroundings and the people in your vicinity at all time.

8. Save important phone calls for a later time. Using a cell phone or other electronics devices, when walking, biking, or divining are distractions and divert your attention away from your surroundings.

9. At night travel in well lighted areas. Avoid shortcuts through dark deserted areas. Do not walk alone and use the buddy system or travel in groups.
