Shots fired outside Regency Mall, two arrested

Henrico police are releasing more details about a shooting outside of the Regency Mall. Now, mall management is weighing in on what happened. Officers found several men nearby, after getting a report of shots fired outside of the mall. A bullet even landed inside a nearby business. Now - two of those men are facing criminal charges.

This has a lot of folks on edge. Police are confirming new details about the shooting that's creating a lot of concerns in this area. Gunshots rang out hours before closing time outside the Regency mall.

"Terrible. It's terrible," said Alsuin Preis.

Shoppers just learning of the news are concerned about what happened.

"It's very concerning because this has always been a nice middle class area and this stuff starts creeping in and it's really scary," Preis said.

Police arrested two men. William King was charged with attempted malicious wounding and shooting inside an occupied building. Orlando Carter was also arrested and charged with assault.

Police also say one of the bullets landed inside this nearby Pizza Hut. The restaurant was open at the time. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The restaurant had to close for the night.

"I had just walked to my car at 730 to leave work. It could have been a much different situation," said J.D. Hobbs of Emerge Salon.

She works nearby and is alarmed an argument may have led to gun violence.

"Someone could've left home in a bad mood and then they get someplace else and take their frustrations out on someone else," Hobbs said.

"We run over there from time to time but don't really hear about any negative," Michael Pressner added.

Thursday, mall management said the safety of customers and employers is their top priority. Mall officials say they have a highly trained security team in place to routinely monitor the area.

This isn't the first incident in the area. Earlier this week, there was a robbery at the Boost Mobile near the mall. There have been no arrests in that crime. This community just wants the crime to go away.

"Wouldn't you? I just hope this is an isolated incident and not going to be a trend…We'll definitely be a little more cautious," Pressner said.

Managers at Regency say they are fully cooperating with police -- as this investigation continues.
