Expect some changes for Toledo Public Schools this year

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The first day of classes for Toledo Public Schools is less than three weeks away and school officials say they are excited about the changes expected for the year.

All TPS elementary schools will now be offering free lunches to students in addition to the free breakfast.

New football stadiums at Scott and Woodward will be ready this fall.

Toledo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Romules Durant says the Jones Leadership Academy will be opening its doors.

Durant also says that TPS is working to offer more programs preparing students for the workforce.

"One of the main things that our goals in regards to TPS is bringing industries within the classroom. So when you start talking about Scott High School and their broadcasting station bringing local news stations, radio stations, and a local newspaper into school to begin to allow students to see their transferable skills from what they learn and from what they need to know for the work force," said Dr. Druant.

The first day of school for Toledo Public Schools is Tuesday August 26.

The Head Start program will start on September 2.
