Mount Eden Fire department damaged in blaze

SPENCER COUNTY, KY (WAVE) - Crews from neighboring departments helped control a blaze in a Spencer County fire department.

Shelby County dispatch confirms the Mount Eden Fire Department on Vanburen Road caught fire early in the morning on Tuesday, August 5.

Reports of the fire began at 5:13 a.m. With the help of three department -- Shelby County Fire, Simpsonville Fire and Waddy Fire Department -- crews were able to get the flames under control.

Mount Eden Fire Department is in Spencer County, but also responds to calls in Shelby County.

Officials are working to assess the damage.

    For the past 2 months we've been tracking the harmful algae bloom on Lake Erie, but in the past 24 hours it has moved into the Maumee River.  Thanks to calm weather this move has been possible. While widespread algae on the river is not likely, scum along the shores is possible through Toledo. The warm weather the next few days means the bloom is likely to continue.
