TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The owner of a former Toledo pawn shop is warning old customers that their personal information could be at risk.

The Liberal Loan and Antique Shop used to be on Monroe Street near Erie. Owner Jascha Chiaverini lost his business to back taxes. He says the county locked the building up and said they would get rid of everything.

Chiaverini says he warned county officials there were personal records inside, but says he's fed up after finding those records were not properly destroyed.

"My customers had the expectation of privacy, the expectation of security," he said. "I've done an excellent job of doing so, up until possession was taken."

Online records show the county took possession of the business in 2012. Two years later, Chiaverini never thought he'd spend his day digging through what he says the county tried to throw away.

Names, addresses, social security numbers and even copies of drivers' licenses were scattered on the ground or thrown in the trash on Friday.

"I've spent the whole day going through trash piles, picking out records that [the county] wanted a company to just go and dump," Chiaverini said.

He says his records date back several decades, and thousands of people could have information on those papers.

Toledo News Now left a message with the Lucas County Land Bank, but have not yet received a response.
