Police turn to social media to find family after vet's grave marker found in tornado debris

Agrave marker which went unclaimed for months may finally be handed over to afamily member thanks to social media and the Internet.

Perrysburg Township Police received the marker after a tornado hit the area in November.

Police say someone was cleaning up debris on their property after the tornado,found the grave maker, and brought it to the police station.

Themarker, bearing the name John Paulocsak, shows that Paulocsak served in the UnitedStates Coast Guard during World War II. The

The department says they tried to researched, but to no had no luck findingfamily. Even the Coast Guard couldn't give them information on the man.

"Unfortunately he died severalyears ago, so it's a lot of paperwork for them to find it, and they were havinga hard time locating any information for us," said Perrysburg Township Patrolman DavidSmith.

Sothey reached out on social media, and that's when the tips started coming in.

"Our administrative assistant,I asked her to put it on our website, on the township's website, and she alsoput it on her Facebook, and shortly after that we started getting informationfrom people," said Smith.

Smithsays police were very careful making sure the right person got the marker.Officers feared the valuable metal in the marker might attract scrappers.

"We do have thefts ofornaments from gravesites, and that tragedy, we do not want that to happen, sowe will definitely make sure that whoever comes to pick that up is a survivingrelative," said Smith.

Police say they do have one solid lead on the makerand have received documentation that the person is a blood relative of the man whosename is on the marker.
