Damage was reported in several areas of Highland County on Sunday after a strong storm went through the area. The National Weather Service has now confirmed that a tornado touched down in the area.

The tornado hit two miles Southwest of Hillsboro around 8:45 p.m., according to the NWS. It was an estimated EF0, meaning wind speeds reached 65 to 85 miles per hour.

Numerous trees and power lines were blown down along Route 62 causing the closure of Green, Ervin and Ivy Hill roads, according to the NWS.

A mobile home was partially turned over from the strong winds.

Highland County resident Douglas Puckett said that he saw a funnel cloud near his house Saturday night.

"I went to the door and looked up on the hill in my back yard and there was a funnel cloud. It was about 3 or 4 feet wide and then it was just sitting there growing wider and wider," he said.

He also reported damage to his car from the storm. Puckett says a piece of bark flew off a tree and sliced his car tire.
