MOUNT BLANCHARD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Riverdale school board accepted the resignation of an elementary teacher facing charges of child endangerment at their Monday meeting.

Kindergarten teacher Barbara Williams was suspended at the end of the school year after surveillance video was released showing her grab 6-year-old student Ian Nelson by his head and put him against a wall after a trip to the bathroom. Williams was later charged with a misdemeanor count of child endangering, to which she pleaded not guilty.

Riverdale Superintendent Eric Hoffman presented Williams' resignation to the school board at Monday's meeting. The resignation letter was very short, and said Williams was resigning "for personal reasons."

The board voted unanimously to accept the resignation. Hoffman says they now have to fill Williams' teaching position as soon as possible, because school is back in session in three weeks.

"It would have been difficult to start the year with her in the classroom," said John Livingston, school board president. "I'm sure Mrs. Williams would tell you that, as humans, we all would like to have a minute, an hour, a day of our lives back."

The letter ends the three-month issue from the district's perspective, although the criminal case is ongoing.

"We are ready to move forward," Hoffman said. "I think we are going to move forward as a district."
