10 Arrested for OVI in Sandusky County overnight

SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ten drivers were arrested for Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence (OVI) in Sandusky County between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The Fremont Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol conducted an OVI checkpoint at Rawson Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to midnight. Of the 389 vehicles to pass through, 11 were pulled aside for further investigation.  Three people were arrested for OVI.

Troopers also made arrests for open container, possession of marijuana, and a felony improper handling of a CCW while intoxicated.

After the checkpoint, troopers spread throughout Sandusky County. From 6 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday, troopers made 54 traffic stops and arrested seven more people for OVI.

In the first seven months of 2014, there have been 174 people arrested for OVI in Sandusky County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. One of the six fatal crashes in the county this year was caused by an impaired driver.

In total, 14 troopers from the Fremont, Sandusky, Milan, and Norwalk Patrol Posts worked the OVI checkpoint Friday, while the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office and Fremont Police Department provided area patrol.
