Findlay residents replace vandalized flags downtown

FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Seeing American flags waving in Findlay is not an uncommon sight, but seeing those flags vandalized was something that shocked many residents of Flag City.

John and Rhonda Firestone have owned the Tuffy Service Center on Tiffin Avenue in Findlay for 10 years. Every day their business is open, they make sure the flag is flying outside.

"Well, because it is Flag City, and I believe everybody should fly their flag here in town," explained Rhonda.

The Firestones say their parking lot is always filled with loyal customers, so when they heard someone had vandalized the American flags on Main Street, they felt they had to step in. On Thursday, they purchased flags to replace the ruined ones.

"That what you do for the people that take care of you – you give back," John said. "This was something that we needed to do."

The Firestones feel the entire ordeal will leave Findlay for the better.

"I'll almost bet you that we'll end up with more flags downtown today," John said. "I think that a couple of individuals probably made a bad choice, and with all that's been happening with it, I doubt seriously if it happens again. I hope it wouldn't. But I think it's motivated people and I think we'll see more flags now."
