TPS education fair held Friday in south Toledo

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

As the summer continues, Toledo Public Schools is helpingits students stay engaged in academics while having fun.

TPS administrators and other community members areheading out to housing sites for educational fairs. One of those fairs was heldFriday on Elmdale in south Toledo.

At the education fair, TPS gave away free books, had acookout, and provided several other services for both adults and children.

Parents could also register their kids for the upcomingschool year, as well as take hearing and vision tests.

TPS Superintendent Romules Durant says they want to keepeducation in kids' minds.

"You may be on summer break, but every day is a dayof education, and so we want to make sure that we continue to encourage ourstudents to read," he said. "And rather than waiting for them to come to us,we're going to come to you, and remind you that reading is very important overthe course of the summer."

The next fair will be held Tuesday, July 29 at theCharles Weiler Homes.
