Possible business rezoning raising concern in Sylvania

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents living near the intersection of Acres and Alexis are upset about a possible zoning change that may bring more business - and traffic - to the area.

There are currently three homes that sit on the intersection. A zoning request to turn the residential properties into a commercial site has been submitted to the City of Sylvania.

There is no word yet on what type of business would go there.

"There are so many other places they could redevelop; I just don't see why you need to take away part of the neighborhood in order to build a business when there is plenty of business retail all over the place," said John Ventrensca.

Neighbors say part of their concern is increasing traffic at the already busy intersection.

"That's really a bad corner. There has been lots of accidents," said Sandy Ventrensca. "If you want to make a left-hand turn from Acres onto Alexis, depending on the traffic and the time of day, it can be really bad."

The Ventrenscas say they do not want the already busy neighborhood to get more traffic.

A public meeting will be held on August 18 to discuss the rezoning.
